Friendsgiving

A couple years ago we started a tradition, Friendsgiving. We love spending the holidays with our family, and finding time to invite a few friends over for a pre-holiday celebration is just the icing on the cake. We have the best group of  friends and the cutest kids. It’s defintely  one of the things at the top of “things we are thankful for”. We ate, we drank and we shared a lot of laughs together. Friendsgiving is fast becoming one of my number one things we look forward to every year! There’s nothing better than being surrounded by family, friends, and contagious laughter!

We have to admit hosting a big meal for a lot of people can be very stressful. It doesn’t have to be that way though! We enjoy doing a brunch instead of Thanksgiving meal. It keeps it simple! Our tips: delegate, make ahead, and drink A LOT of mimosas.

“Up up and Away”

It doesn’t seem possible, but our sweet baby girl Brooklyn has officially turned O N E! I can hardly remember what life was like before her. Time truly flies when you’re having fun!
With her love for balloons I thought what better theme to run with than Hot Air Balloons! I prefer the convince of email invitations so we used Paperless Post for the invites. We hosted a brunch style party at 11 am, right after her first nap so she was a happy camper. We served donut holes, fruit, Chick-fil-a nuggets (who doesn’t love those), assorted quiche (Costco), coffee cakes (Costco), fruit pouches for the little ones, and of course custom cookies from Tudor House Cookies. Also the creative and talented Heaven & Honey did a little photo shoot before the party with the hot air balloon theme which turned out amazing!

I ordered most of the decoration on Amazon.com:
– tissue pom pom
tassel garland
3 foot balloons
hot air balloon mesh net
Who doesn’t like everything being delivered to there door step.

Lastly, was the goodie bags. I had a hard time deciding what to include but Target never seems to disappoint and I hit there dollar section and found a box of jumbo sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and glow n the dark sticks. What great finds and a ones top shop.

Until the next baby comes along …. I hope you get some ideas from “Brunch with Brooklyn”

xoxo

Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin!

As we gear up for fall, we both look forward to decorating the house and baking sweet treats. I thought we would share one of our favorites with y’all! If you love Starbucks Pumpkin Loaf as much as we do then you’ll “fall in love” with this recipe! Enjoy!

Ingredients:
1 ½ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
¾ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon ginger
¼ teaspoon allspice
½ teaspoon salt
4 eggs
1 cup sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
¾ cup pumpkin puree
¾ cup canola oil
¼ cup chopped pumpkin seeds, optional

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter an 8 x 4 inch loaf pan.

Combine the flour, soda, powder, spices and salt in a bowl.

Beat the eggs, sugars and vanilla together in an electric mixer on high speed for 30 seconds. Add the pumpkin and the oil and mix well.

Add the dry ingredients and mix well. Pour into prepared loaf pan and sprinkle with pumpkin seeds, if desired.

Bake 60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Let cool in pan 10 minutes, and then turn onto cooling rack to cool completely.

Cut into 8 thick slices for a Starbucks pumpkin experience!
